Douglas, William, and Matthew Schofield. "Airport security tightened in wake ofterror arrests." McClatchy Newspapers [Washington] July-Aug. 2006, sec. 1.McClatchy Washington Bureau. Ed. Tish Wells. 17 Aug. 2006
Security has been heightened to an alarming red, as the British continue to look for the suspects in an attempted terrorist plot to blow up as many as 10 transatlantic jetliners in flight between Great Britain and the United States, The article states that all passengers will have to go through double screenings. They will be inspected at the first security check point and then at the boarding gates. Passengers will not be aloud to carry any liquids or gels on board since the suspects were aiming to smuggle liquid explosives, timers, and detonators that they could easily assemble on the plane. Passengers are encouraged to arrive early and expect delayed flight because of the heightened terrorist warnings.
The airport security issue is growing in many countries do to the War on Terror between the United Stated and the Middle East. There are many different emotions, opinions, and questions that I had after reading this article. As a frequent traveler I was frustrated because I know that I am going to have to get to the airport 4 hours in advance before my next flight. I know that it is way better to sacrifice a couple of hours rather than risk your life, but sometimes I feel like the US is obligated to know and is all powerful enough to be able to stop an attack before it happens. However, this was not the case in the 9/11 attacks. Again, I found myself trying to understand why this war even started? What emotions drove the attackers to do what they did? Is there a force so great that would drive someone to give up their life for their beliefs? I read this article expecting to finish and write a critique on it, but honestly now I find myself asking more questions and wanting to find out more about the war. When will it ever end? Is airport security just the beginning of things to come or will we be sharing our airport stories by next time this year?
