Bridling'em! US lays down strict norms for motorcycles

Current Event #1: Jenelle Davis

We are all familiar with emission standards set by the EPA for passenger vehicles, but what about for motorcycles. Until I came across this article from downtoearth.org I never really thought about motorcycles passing this emissions test either. But it’s important that every mean of transportation undergo things because we are a nation that is continually growing and even though we have public transportation how many of us are really willing to use it?
The EPA has buffed up its standards for motorcycles in an effort to reduce hydrocarbons and oxides of nitrogen. This is all in an effort to make motorcycles cleaner burning. At the same time the EPA is looking at how these regulations can be with reducing the loss of gasoline through fuel hoses and fuel tanks.
I feel that this issue is important because you see all over TV about Ford, Toyota, Honda, etc making cleaner burning cars that run on less gas and omit less toxins out into the environment but honestly when have you even seen a commercial on TV advertising cleaner burning motorcycles? Exactly there are none. The new laws will go into effect in December 2006. This will hopefully get motorcycle production companies on the bandwagon of producing cleaner transportation. Plus with motorcycles becoming more of a sensible mode of transportation, with gas prices reaching all time highs, it only makes sense to implement the regulations. Who knows one, with all the advances being made with hybrid cars why not have hybrid motorcycles?
