Enough Religion: Stop Shoving it Down my Throat

Yesterday, September 11th, Archbishop Pius Ncube of Zimbabwe handed in his resignation to the Pope after numerous rumors were spread about sexual acts that had happened with Ncube and another woman. A small minority of Roman Catholics was offended and wanted Ncube to step down. The issue of the matter is: why should the minority of a population have the say over the majority of the population? The primary religion is Islam in Zimbabwe, and then Christianity and the majority of the Christians in Zimbabwe are not church goers.

I agree with this article 100 percent. The writer had a good point saying that everything is always centered on religion, rather than the culture or common good of the people. The writer says that it even starts here in America in our high schools. It is said that we learn about other ‘cultures’ when really we learn about other religions. If we did learn about cultures we would learn about the food, architecture, clothes, (etc.) but instead all we learn about is the religion of each country. Learning about religion however is not a bad thing at all, but I feel that the world as a whole does focus more on religion than anything else. The Roman Catholics in Zimbabwe said they were ‘offended’ by the acts of their Archbishop. Muslims say they are ‘offended’ by caricatures the Europeans made of Mohammad. No one should be offended, in my opinion, because that’s all anything is—opinion—which is always going to differ from person to person, culture to culture, and country to country.
