Due to a lack of budget for the upcoming year the British Broadcasting Corporation, in London, will eliminate 2,500 positions and have ten percent fewer shows by the year 2013. The company has had a not so well start and due to more progressing competitive companies they will be putting thousands out of work. The job cuts have lead many angered employees threatening to strike.
The BBC network promised some workers that new positions were being created and will be filled by previous employees. The positions aren’t enough, only incorporating near 700. The cut that the company has made affects eight percent of the 23,000 workers at BBC.
The competition has come as a new thing for BBC; the company is guaranteed 6.1 billion dollars this year for fees. It’s almost like they don’t know where to begin. They have come up with Internet and radio news, having a more tactic way around multimedia news. The people who manage BBC, BBC Trust, have made way for new plans on BBC Web. BBC Web is an international site that sells ads, for raising concerns over commercials for rival broadcasting.
BBC plans on downsizing, doesn’t mean less quality. They state they are going to work on quality and content, making audiences happier. The four billion dollar shortfall they received this year in viewers’ fees will have to do. It’s almost like they have to cross their fingers and hope for the best.
