This article looks like it has nothing to do with urbanization at all. However it explains what urbanization has to do with the rising "trend" of SYF. Unabbriviated SYF means "single young female." They compare the rising demographic to that of the popular movie and book, "the Bridget Jones Diary." The young lady Bridget is a single young women who is well educated and works very hard. The point of the comparision is that in todays society women are more active. Meaning that they get married later, they socially do more, they have a high education and their goals are very clear. Women today are getting married later and having more fun with their youth. Cities have helped to up spring this. With all the cultural arts and extracurricular activities centered around the city, the more women that live in the city the more likely they are to lead a lifestyle similar to that of Bridget Jones. Shows like Sex and City prove the same point. omen are getting married later, they are seriously well educated (and women with degrees tend to marry later, if at all), and urbanization. As with all efficient markets, its about geographical clustering. With this combination you cant help but to see why women are changing from the stereo typical house wife to the new modern woman.
