International Health Officials Say Drug-Resistant TB is Man-Made

www.voanews.com

This article is talking about how drug-resistant tuberculosis is a man - made epidempic becaue the lack of global response to tuberculosis. The World Health Organizatin says that at least 1.6 million people die a year from tuberculosis. The reason for so many deaths is that health officials don't properly identify or properly treat patients that have tuberculosis. Because they are not treated properly it leads tuberculosis to be resistant. Tuberculosis is also can come resistant if the patient does not finish talking all of there antibodies because tuberculosis is a baterium. Drug resiatant tuberculosis comes in two forms. The first form is multi- drug resistant tuberculosis. This is when the infection is resistant to one or both of the front line anti-TB drug. The second form is extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis. This form is resistant to the older antibiotics and also at least one of the newer anitbiotics. If these types are left untreated they are very easy to pass to others. So to try to treat these forms they are going to use multiple drugs. I feel that this topic is very interesting and a topic that people and health care profession should take seriously. This a disease that needs to be controled before it turns into the plague
