The Czech Republic is suffering through a severe labor shortage due to their expectations not being met with their program to lure in skilled non-EU workers. The five year plan that the Czech Republic has presented was supposed to lure in 3,500 workers while it only produced a small fraction of that with 888 from twelve countries in its first four and a half years. This project is not looking well since it is so far behind and the country is experiencing labor shortages which are a great threat to the economy. This shortage in labor is affecting everything, especially the automotive and construction industries. According to the Labor and Social Affairs Ministry, the foreign workers program suffers from an excessive bureaucracy that discourages potential employers. However, not everyone outside the ministry would like to see the qualified-workers program canceled. The program gets a lot of attention through phone inquiries and visits through its website making it appear that the Czech Republic is an appealing place for work. Many of the people interested are thought to drop out because they are required to find a job before applying for the program. It is also difficult to get into the program because of complicated and slow visa procedures and the limited number of participant countries (workers can originate from only 12 countries, mostly former Eastern bloc states).

This program appeared that it had all the right intentions but the execution of this project is quite poor. Since they limit their participants to only 12 countries while it is very difficult to attain a visa it makes this program appear to be very inefficient. I would have to say they need to be more lenient on prospective participants or they just need to get rid of this program. It has been going on for over four years and has greatly affected the economy of the Czech Republic.
