Protests of the Olympic Games being held in China have soared in New Delhi India today. There is a 100,000 member community of exiled Tibetans living in India. This demonstrations have been continuous since the March incident of China putting a stop to Tibetan protestors. The Indian protests were the follow up to wednesday's actions when 100 exiled Tibetans were put into police vans after breaching the Chinese embassy. Even with the Dalai Lama supporting the Games in China, Tibetan exiles have done numerous demonstrations which escalate after China banned the protests in Tibet. The torch has been through many countrie unharmed, including Pakistan where citizens were urged to be positive about the Olympics being held in China, and expecially not to say anything about Tibetans. But India stays true to the Tibetans and will be wearing Tibetan colors. Many have hinted about the disruption of the torch when it comes through India, he did not want to take responsibility. But he did say be at India Gate on Thursday where the torch is suppose to come through.
There is a strong possibility that the Torch could be stolen of doused. India has said that some monks may get through during the running, but it the nation as a whole has to be careful to not jeopardize relations with China. India and China rely on eachother's economy. The two-way trade brought in $37 billion last year and it is necessary for the two nations. But the public supports Tibetans and their leader the Dalai Lama. It will be interesting to see the actions of Tibetans and Indian citizens, but more importantly the role of the police. Let's not forget that police to go home to civilian lives.
