Beirut to host second annual New Arab Woman Forum

This article is about The InterContinental Phoenicia Hotel hosting the second annual New Arab Woman Forum. The news conference announced the plans for the forum on September 10, 2008 in Beirut. It says that the website for the forum stated that, “the Arab world today is in the midst of a major process of transformation,” with women increasingly playing a role “as business leaders and executives, political and social activists, wealth holders and investors, consumers, and mothers.” Six hundred people are expected to attend the conference. Nadine Abou Zaki, the forum’s executive chair, said that “the agenda will mainly focus on the changing and developing role of Arab women” and examine the challenges they face. It will also discuss Arab women in politics and other leadership positions, how men view the “changing role and status” of women and the influence of technology on forging the identities of Arab women. I think that the progress of these women is amazing. I’m sure that in many countries the women are held at a lower status, but especially in the Middle East. The women have been degraded to the extreme. The fact that the country is even allowing a forum to go on that is going to be discussing how women are coming up is amazing. I am actually glad that I found this article because I did not know that Arab women were becoming more professional and were able to be getting the job positions that they have deserved for a long time.

I totally agree with the poster! I am really excited to hear that the status of women is changing in the Middle East. This is something that many people have been waiting for, and I can only imagine how happy the Arab woman are! The men on the other hand might not be too happy, but obviously there has been some type of agreement to even allow the women to hold a forum like this, so hopefully the rest of the men that do not agree with conform.

The fact that women are gaining recognition is a victory all in and of itself. I heard a quote the other that went somewhere along the lines of by empowering our women, we empower our nation as well. This is in fact wonderful news!

I also think that by empowering women you are empowering a nation, because let's face it, women have better social skills than men and are more likely to be compassionate. I think women would make excellent leaders.
