On Monday, a prominent opposition leader and retired army general were among the dead, as twenty-two people were killed by a Sri Lankan suicide bomber. The occurrence of the incident was about 124-miles north of Colombo, in a town called Anuradhapura. It all happened in the opening of a building for the United National Party which is the opposition party in Sri Lanka. The leader that was killed was Janaka Perera. In the bombing his wife was killed as well. In August, Mr. Perera ran for an important position as chief minister of the province unsuccessfully. While there are no immediate suspects, there is an idea of who could have been responsible. The Tamil Tigers, using suicide bombers, have assassinated many politicians throughout the years. In their efforts to gain a separate homeland from the country, just for the Sri Lankan Tamils, they are known for their techniques of using suicide bombers.

The use of suicide bombers is just an idea that is very difficult to fathom. No matter how wrong one thinks it is, there are countries or organizations that use these tactics as a norm. Unfortunately, the Sri Lankan people and their government seem to be in trouble if the Tamil Tigers are indeed involved. The fact that they want a separate homeland means that they probably will not give up until they get it. If they were in fact involved. Once again, there were more innocent lives lost and still no resolution to the underlying problem.
