FBI warns of sweeping global threat to U.S. cybersecurity

This article followed the comments of the Homeland Security Secretary and was targeting the cyber security agenda of the Bush administration and the plans for the next presidency. The FBI’s Cyber Division protects the U.S. from other countries or terrorist groups that want to “hack US government, corporate, and military networks, or (.gov, .mil, and .com Web domains)”, putting data in jeopardy which could potentially be a global crime and not just effecting the US, depending on the nature of the data. The amount of cases faced by the FBI’s Cyber Division numbers in the thousands only to rise annually as there is increased spread of computer technology globally, advances in computers, and the prospect of making easy money. National security is the top priority of the FBI but in reality no computer is immune to infiltration by an unwanted party so much so that since the beginning of the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center has received 18,000 to 20,000 complaints per month from victims, whether they are personal or business, totaling more than a million calls from its start in the middle of 2000. The FBI’s Homeland Security Secretary mentioned the interview it was not solely the responsibility of the federal level, hinting at a private sector specializing in computer security that will perhaps lend its protection to other countries as well.
I think that the aspect of a private sector for national cyber security would be greatly beneficial to the US as well as our allies. Information hacked into by outside groups and deviant groups could spell disaster for the free world if tapped into, so there should be a more specialized FBI branch to provide closure for the US and prevent this global crime from happening.

I agree that this is also a good idea. It is only fair that we protect our cyber world as much as we are building up protection in the real world. Hackers are potentially our worst enemies and they use the information provided in the internet against helpless innocences and we can't do anything about it. It is a priority because technology is only going to get finer tuned and when it gets in the wrong hands it can be a very hard thing to beat, so we have to step up and be ahead of the game so we can protect ourselves.
