Iraqi Christian: We took only our souls

Thousands of Christians fled Mosul, Iraqi, Tuesday due to the growing violence against them. One refugee said “taking only our souls.” Referring to the fact that they are in such a hurry to leave they just get out. Some sleeping in cars.
“At least 744 Christian families” left. The US and Iraqi in charge said this ’city the last urban stronghold Al Qaeda for refuge.” These Iraqi Christians are in need of everything since they left without their things, fearing for their lives.
The US embassy issued a statement that the terrorist groups did these awful attacks. Mosul is the “second-largest Christian community in Iraq.” Many having to uproot for safety to the more northern areas. Mosul is on the west side of the Tigris River, “opposite the ancient biblical city.” It contains tombs of “several old testament prophets.”
The violence continues to grow with “three dying in a 24 hour period.” Muslims have been bombarded with information to convert or threatened with death. Some Christians feel the government is trying to push them out. A man from a Catholic church says “they want us to feel that we are no longer Iraqis.” Since the beginning of the US and Iraqi war starting in 2003, “more than 200 Christians have been killed, dozens of churches bombed and more than half the Iraqi Christian population has left.”
It seems hard to believe that this is going on. I like to think that here in the US we are not like this. I know some of these things have happened, such as burning of churches, but these incidents are so common place in other countries. They amount of violence tends to be on the uprise and without the government stepping in and doing more I feel it will only get worse.

Religious conflict is a prevalent feature of the world today. We call ourselves modern but that's just technological and political ideology. What's changed? What we witness everyday are vestiges of a thousand-year old ritual of the macabre. Anyway, while we see this as deplorable it is a reality that exists even to this day, successfully if I do say so my self. The goal of any decent human being in this world is to minimize the conflict--bridge understanding at least.
