Night of Murders in border city Tijuana, Mexico, Jared Hill, 10/14/08, 6:01 p.m.

Recently, the Mexican border city of Tijuana has been under the impact of tremendous violence. Once a popular tourist destination for those on the San Diego borderline, this city has become a breeding ground for drug gangs. On Monday night, over eight murders took place in the city. The first incident included three teenage girls being shot down on a street. The verified age of at least one of the victims was fourteen. Another gruesome murder took place only a few blocks away from the murdered teenagers. Over 40 shell castings were found near a man lying dead in the street. In other part of the city, two men were also killed in their vehicle. Shortly before dawn this morning, vehicle filled with a police officer and his relative were also attacked. Though the policeman was only injured, his family member died. Lastly, a man was discovered close to city hall with a trashbag over his head. These attacks are allegedly caused by the Arellano-Felix group. This is one of Mexico’s biggest and most violent drug gangs. Although their founder was killed by law enforcement in 2002, Ramon Eduardo Arellano Felix has respectively gained a league of followers who continue to progress his work in distributing marijuana, cocaine, and a plethora of other drugs in Mexico, as well as the United States. His drug gang has become a huge supplier in illegal substances, even doing operations with South American gangs to trade drugs with South America.
