The UN announces that Botswana, South Africa, and Ethiopia are on track to universal AIDS treatment in the next the 3 years. Brazil, also, is taking measures in favor of AIDS prevention and care including the giving of cheap copies of AIDS drugs by the Brazilian government.
While these positive measures are being taken, the UN is beginning to warn that funding is running out. The UN reports that by 2010 there will be more than 14 million AIDS victims globally. $8 million will be needed by 2015 for sufficient universal global AIDS treatment.
Germany has begun rallying the support of nations who have donated to the AIDS cause in the past in order to fill this funding crisis. Musician Bono also continues to play benefit concerts and speak on behalf of AIDS research. The musician played at the G8 and will team up with Germany for various other benefits in support of the cause.
These efforts to improve research, care, and prevention of AIDS is vital to the health of citizens all over the world. It is a respectable and noble task that Germany and Bono have taken in separating the most developed countries of the world from their money for developing countries. It would be a shame to be so close to having universal AIDS treatment in these countries, Botswana, South Africa, Ethiopia, and Brazil, to be thrown off track by a lack of funding.
