Women Gain Education But Not Power, Study Finds

I chose this article because of the discussion that we had in Thursday’s class. It was all about rights of women, how much they made and I feel like this article really just gives more evidence that women are being taken advantage of. This article highlights what countries rank in women’s equality and names the US as number 27. This clip also looks at how a women’s education and ability to be elected into governed countries often puts those at a higher economic status. And inequalities put countries like Saudi Arabia and China at a large economic disadvantage. Education of women as the article states, “maximize its competitiveness and development potential, each country should strive for gender equality.”
When you look at women’s pay versus men’s pay you can see such a large difference and I think that the reason people don’t say anything about it is because most people don’t realize how large the gap really is. I certainly didn’t. I am glad that we talked about this because I had previously read an article about how women in “war zones” were being taken out of schools and “put in their place”. When I see things like that it makes me believe that the world has just taken a large step back. Education like this article points out can only improve a nation.

I think education is very important but it also depends on what we do with the education. If we look at the world, I'm not sure if women will ever be superior or even reach the goals we want to reach as far as equality. Don't get me wrong, I'm hopeful but we will have to get a LOT of people on the bandwagon!
I too am surprised at the gap between pay of men and women and I agree when you say that maybe steps have not been taken to improve this because many people are not actually aware of how large that gap is.
