The violence in Mexico has extended to Puerto Rico. This past Sunday at the opening of a renovated bar and grocery, a gunmen opened fire, killing seven people while injuring at least twenty others. The people in the grocery were waiting for the band to start playing music when all of a sudden the attacked happened. The two gunmen entered and started shooting immediately, some of the people who were inside returned fire. There were five different types of bullets that were found inside the building, including bullets from an AK-47. A nine-year old girl was injured and a pregnant woman carrying an eight month old was injured and her baby died. Although the community is very tight-knit, very few people are willing to cooperate with the police. Even though the community is not cooperating, the police assured them that they would find the people responsible and charge them.
I was shocked to find out that this type of violence occurs in Puerto Rico. I have always thought of Puerto Rico as a beautiful place with nice resorts and pretty beaches. After reading this article, I do not know what to think of Puerto Rico anymore. It really surprised that the community is not cooperating with the police. I guess the “no snitching” policy applies everywhere these days.
