SA is not exploiting the benefits of skilled migration - CDE

South Africa has been accepting more skilled migrants but haven’t been exploiting the benefits or managing the costs that come with it. The CDE says that the flow of migrants should managed with simple, flexible, humane and intelligent policies. Skilled migrants are definitely the better choice when it comes to screening workers for countries. Citing that the Australia and Canada approach in elaborate. The CDE stated that if a skilled person wanted to migrate to South Africa, settle and look for a job, a fairly undemanding points system could be employed to screen them. Countries benefit from skilled workers in a sense by bringing experience and educational background. Unskilled workers are beneficial but it’s circumstantial, depends on too many needs. South Africa needs a policy that effectively manages the borders and protects the citizens.

Protect the citizens. That is always the main issue of all migration policy conversations. In South Africa’s case, I understand completely. Resources are scarce, so to exploit migrants but give them access to the resources would be a slap in the face to the inhabitants of the country. There is a very fine line that the government has to toe to keep the citizens happy, but still, in someway, benefit from skilled workers migrating to the country. But this is a situation that may prove to be to difficult to fairly manage. I feel that for now they should maybe guard the borders a little more effectively, they have to prevent to the migrants from coming over and taking away opportunities from the citizens.
