China daily reports that minister of Education Zhou Ji states that China will continue its efforts to provide quality, affordable education for all children of China targeting especially those in poverty stricken events. This initiative will include improving their subsidy system as of Fall 2007 and will be a 50 billion yuan project that covers a total of 20 million students each year. The primary funding will come of federal and local governments, schools and private donations.
Another aspect of this initiative will result in a 10% basic salary increase primary and middle school educators all over the country. As a result of this commitment to education a total of 11,000 enrolled in undergraduate studies free of charge. It is great to see that a country with this kind of population issues are willing to tackle and commit to such a important issue. Fortunately, it appears they also see that success in this area includes the educators. It would be great to see China set a global standard in compensation for its educators.
