Kenyan unity government sworn in

Mark Moon / 4.18.2008 / 12:12 PM / Ethnic Conflict

On Thursday, the new 90-man cabinet (split 50-50 between the parties) was sworn in. This move put a lid on the violence that plagued the nation since December of 2007 following the election. While many see this as an important step towards achieving peace in Kenya, others are skeptical of how the country will afford to pay the swelling cabinet. The good news for Kenya is that the cabinet is not made up of dead weight: new ministries were established with the idea of bringing industrialization and a better infrastructure to the nation.
Even though others claim the new cabinet to be a hardship, it has managed to end the last four months of violence. Isn't that worth paying for? With 300,000 driven from their homes and another 1,000 dead, Kenya needs to look towards the future and find ways to provide a sustainable level of living to the poverty-ridden nation. With the new cabinet providing plans for development, it should be more capable of doing so than it has been in the past. The new 90-person cabinet seems like an investment worth making.

What are the relations between Kenya and neighboring countries going to look like from this change?

Well if the nation becomes stable, and infrastructure increases these changes will slowly start to repair the country in the eyes of the world. Quite a bit of damage was done to them over the last 4 months.
