This article is talking about the high malnutrition rates that are in Haiti, and are rapidly climbing. There was already a high problem of families being unable to feed their children. There has always been a higher rate of unemployment in Haiti, and this meant that more families were unable to provide for their families. This meant that they already had many kids that were under nutritioned, and that led to malnutrition. Then, in January of 2010 when the earthquake struck Haiti, it knocked out even more jobs, and job opportunities. This was a problem, because it didn't allow the families to feed their children even more. The families are unable to get work, and even sometimes unable to get clean water just to drink. The earthquake has displaced many workers, and that makes them unable to get the foods their families need to keep them healthy. The article tells us of one child's journey, and how her family is trying to help her, and get her treated for her malnutrition, when they are unable to work to get the items that she needs.
This shows us that people around the world are struggling to feed their families, and trying to just keep them healthy. If anything this should tell us that we should reach out to help these people. We need to support the groups that are trying to help these families and children because they are unable to live, and keep their children alive. Also, this is a bad sign, because we should realize that if a sudden disaster hit our country that we could have the same problems as the families in Haiti. I know that it won't be as bad as them because we are developed, and have more resources, but if we were in that position we would want them to help us. This is global because it could happen anywhere, and we all need to be ready to help each other. Malnutrition is a problem everywhere, and we should not only push to help them after it has struck, but we should try and keep it from hitting so many children.
