Blog Post 9: Let’s Breathe Alternative Energy Into Small Electronic Devices

This week, I chose a small article that seemed quite interesting.  The article discusses a device that has been imagined to generate electricity, AIRE.  The device is worn on a persons face and contains tiny wind turbines inside the mask.  These wind turbines generate electricity when a person breathes and can be used to power small devices such as an ipod, cell phone, or a gps.  They can be worn anytime creating a great device that allows for multitasking.
However, this device is pretty weird, ingenious definitely, but quite strange.  If you take the mouth piece that darth vador breathes through in star wars off of the helmet you will have a rough image of the device.  One problem that I can see with the product is a lack of interest because it looks strange.  I think this problem alone would deter the device from becoming popular.  It might be uncomfortable to wear this thing while you're sleeping every night or while you're jogging etc... Personally, I don't like feeling the warmth of my breathe on my face, so masks in general bother me.  On the other hand, people who go camping could have a good way to keep an emergency line open if necessary.  I think this device will not see the large portion of the market, but I do think that every idea and innovation leads to another that is beneficial.
