Clean Up The World

September 14 will kick off the United Nations backed "clean up the world" weekend program. It is expected that nearly 35 million people around the world are expected to participate in some shape or form. Many people will focus on actual clean up activities such as waste removal, tree planting, and water conservation. Ian Kiernan, founder and chairman of clean up the world stated: "Our aim is to encourage the individuals to take responsibility in protecting the environment through a range of affordable actions..." The theme for this year "our climate, our actions, our future" pushes the need for us as citizens of the world to take appropriate actions in sustaining our environment.

It is amazing that such an organization exist in order to push us to take steps to better our environment. I do find it hard to believe that the UN backs such and organization due to its lack on interest in environmental preservation. Cleaning up our world by taking minor steps is a good way to start. It is unbelievable that this program has not gotten any local coverage in order to push larger numbers to help the clean up effort.
