Ethnicity, Religion, and Politics
http://www.kessbenfm.com/news_read.php?nid=814
The article that I read discusses how introducing elements of religion into the nation’s politics should be cautioned against much like that of the other articles that I have read. This one continues on that topic of Ghana mixing religion into their politics. Mr. Mustapha Hamid who is the spokesperson for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo talks about how he believes that politics was about ideas and a capable leader in which religion does not belong. It later states how Mr. Hamid was interviewed by a journalist in Tamale on Sunday. They discussed his plans for the Election in 2008 for the new presidential candidate for the NPP or the New Patriotic Party. Mr. Hamid believes that Nana Akufo-Auddo is the only candidate running who fulfills the qualifications which include being a democrat, a freedom fighter, and most importantly a true leader.
As I have said before in previous post I too believe that this is true of politics, that it should be based on the person’s qualifications and not on what religion they are part of. So based on what I have read in this article and previous ones I would have to agree with Mr. Mustapha Hamid on his points for choosing the best leader for the job and if it true of what he is saying about Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo then I do not see what the commotion is about. But then again as all ways there are always two sides to a story and everyone has a different opinion. So I will just have to wait for later news to get more information and see how this story ends up.
