Varenne: Ethnography and Participant Observation -- IV
Inevitably: fieldnotes
  1. Types
We can now review the classificatory scheme from Sanjek (1990). I have added a few more to approximate how one might approach Malinowski's list of what one should come back with from the field.
        1. Head notes
        2. Scratch notes
        3. Rewritten field notes on the basis of the scratch notes.
        4. Fieldnotes Proper
        5. Journals and Diaries
        6. Field Records
These might be considered the first step in analysis as all information about a particular matter is collated from other notes, gaps are noticed, and then filled in a process that is not recorded historically.
        7. Texts
        8. Maps and photographs
        9. Letters, Reports, Papers
       10. Tape transcripts
