With New Hope, Women Activists Keep Focus on Libya

Shahrazad Kablan is a Libyan women who was exiled. She was pro-rebel in the fight against Muammar el-Qaddafi. She used her television show to call attention to topics that were usually brushed under the rug and to promote the rebels. Many of the women in Libya had used their connections outside of government to aid the rebels in a variety of areas. Sara Maziq quit her very lucrative job to devote her time whole-heartedly to the anti-Qaddafi movement. Ms. Kablan and Ms. Maziq are trying to raise money to support the many up and coming nonprofit companies in Libya that are striving to help in this trying time. Even more important is their commitment to gaining knowledge that will help their country build a strong infrastructure to be able to flourish after its recent tragedies

This article shows the power not only of Libyan women, but all women. Even in a male dominated issue such as war, women are affected just as much, so why should they not contribute. I believe that this is a way that women can take equality, if it is not given. Even if they were not allowed to act as soldiers, or didn’t have that desire, they found a way to be productive toward their cause. What Kablan said about the “international community” was very inspiring, even outside of this particular issue. We do need, as women, as human beings, to band together and work toward the solutions to our world’s many problems. It is the only way that they may potentially be solved.
