France has approved the bill that would allow gay marriage and allows same-sex adoption. However, it raises many issues due to the conservative Roman Catholic church in France and the idea that it will destroy traditional marriage. France comments that this bill will provide protection for all families and they believe that this law will strength marriage instead of destroy it. Although this has just been approved by the parliament and it still has to go to congress, they are hopeful in the passing of the law. They did say that the majority was very slim in the vote and that many people protested the new bill passing but they believe that this will make their society stronger and are happy that they are making history.
I am proud that France has taken such a stance on such a controversial issue. Gay marriage is such a controversial issue around the world and the fact that so many more countries are starting to accept it is amazing. They are making a public stand on the issue and to try to ensure that all people receive the same rights. Although they may be facing a lot of angry citizens over the next few months, I believe France is doing the right thing by standing up and trying to extend rights and protection to all of their citizens.
