Cannibals Confess in Mozambique

A husband and wife in Mozambique faced multiple charges after confessing to exhuming corpses to eat the flesh and powdered bones, say police. The couple was arrested in Vanduzi last weekend in possession of human organs, and said that eating human flesh strengthened their power to heal people. Upon further investigation it was discovered that their belief in witchcraft was strong.
This article was one that was confusing as far as whether this couple resorted to cannibalism because of their strong belief in witchcraft or whether it was just a personal choice. The article seemed to give off more of a feel that cannibalism was not something that was practiced often in Mozambique. I'm not really familiar with the practice of witchcraft but I'm pretty sure this is not typical behavior for it's followers. The article also made it seem like the decision to become cannibals was more of the husbands choice because he was a cannibal for twenty years while the wife only became one when her husband ordered her to. I do believe that both of them should have been arrested because whether their actions were a religious decision or not it was not only dangerous and unsanitary for them but it was also disrespectful to the families and the corpses.
