Studies have shown that women are outnumbering men in higher education. Nationally women count for about 57 percent of all undergraduates. A study conducted in 2006 by the American Council on Education shows that the gap is widening among certain student populations. Women outnumber men by about 2-1 among the 40 percent of undergraduates age 25 or older. However, men do outnumber women in the number of degrees awarded. For example, engineering, computer science and in biological sciences women now outpace men. In African-American students males represent about 49 percent of the incoming class this year but the female to male ratio is 60 to 40 percent which favors female students overall. Women are majoring in professions that require four years of school and a good living. Men are majoring in professions that require more education or no education at all.
I think this can be equaled out. All males have to do is get motivated and study more. I think in today’s world there are so many jobs where higher education is not required therefore males are figuring out why go to college when I can work construction and make $20 an hour. There are more and more women going to be doctors and lawyers than there have ever been. I think the problem is that females start preparing earlier than males do. A lot of females want successful jobs and to have a good living, so they are willing to study as hard as they can.
