Iraq economy shows growth

According to a senior us official the Iraq economy is headed for a 6 percent growth. This increase in economy is far beyond what the US government expected it to be. According to Charles Ries, the US co-ordinator for economic transition in Iraq, "the improvement on the security side is having an impact on the economy...". It is said that is unprecise on the measures right now but that the Gross Domestic Product has almost double in 2 years. Industry and Oil however, has seen no increase in productivity. Ries also states that "foreign assistance to the Iraqi government, including $30 billion from the US since 2003, was boosting GDP figures."

I believe that the Iraqi economy can do nothing but increase if foreign countries continue to dump money into their economy. It is clear that The US is assisting the Iraqi economy in order to create opportunities for themselves. I believe that the US government should allow the Iraqi people to boost their economy themselves and in the direction they wish to go. Although the GDP is growing it is still low by all means. Ries goes on to say that he can only "guestimate" on the impact that foreign nations have on the economy of Iraq. I believe that he does not want to acknowledge that this growth is solely powered by foreign assistance.
