18 Sunnis killed in Baghdad

Early Thursday, al-Qaida fighters killed two Iraqi soldiers then took Humvees to kill at least 18 Sunnis that can be considered to be rivals. This happened in the southern area of Baghdad. Later in the day, in the U.S.-protected Green Zone, a series of mortars struck. These blasts went along with the Thanksgiving holiday. No immediate casualty reports were made. This area houses the U.S. Embassy, Iraqi government headquarters, as well as thousands of American troops and contractors.
The blasts that occurred south of Baghdad started when an Iraqi patrol near a rural area was targeted. The militants were driving humvees and took them from Hor Rijab, where the two soldiers were killed, into the nearby headquarters of a Sunni group. This group has apparently turned against the terror network and formed an “Awakening Council.” Severe conflicts broke out and according to the police at least 18 of the Awakening Council were the ones that were killed. News footage showed police and soldiers formed a protective cordon around women and children as wooden coffins were loaded onto cars for a funeral procession for those that were killed.
I was very saddened to read this story on Thanksgiving. I would think that people all around the world would be respectful of this holiday and not go and kill anybody. I do understand that not everyone around the world celebrates the Thanksgiving holiday, but I wish that people could be respectful of those that do celebrate it.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with the people that they love!
