What Now?
So now that you know what's going on, what can you do about it? Become environmentally friendly. To be short- bulbs, cars, house, appliances, recycle and plants. To be long, here's what they mean.
The newest "environmentally friendly" bulbs are now Energy Star compact fluorescent bulbs. These of course lasts for years and are much more enduring than regular, cheap bulbs. Cheap of course implies that the Energy Stars are expensive, and they can be. However, their life span is worth the price compared to short lived bulbs. To quote the article,
"If every household in the U.S. replaced a burned-out bulb with an energy-efficient, ENERGY STAR qualified compact fluorescent bulb... It would prevent greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to that from nearly 800,000 cars."
If you're looking for a car, hybrids are you're best bet if you can't afford hydrogen or electric powered vehicles. However, if you can't afford a hybrid, there are other things to do within your spending. The perhaps cheapest way is to carpool or mass transit, depending on your provided options. Also, when driving, make single trips instead of multiple "out of your way" visits on the other side of town. Keep your car clean by regular filter and oil changes, which minimize emissions and optimize your engine. Finally, take car of your car by allowing it to "warm up" before driving, and limit your idle time.
Like your car, a house uses filters, and changing these filters has a huge effect on its efficiency. Also, air systems need to be updated, which adds additional benefits to your overall costs. To conclude on home spending, buy Energy Star appliances for all of your electrical needs. Doing so will cut most of your emissions quickly and effectively. If you can't afford to replace all of your appliances, change as many as you can. Even doing a little, does a lot towards reducing green gases.
Remember to recycle, buy bulk, and plant trees along with other greenery to promote a healthy environment.
