Candis Little/WestCongoCatchesOutUNPeacekeepers/03/06/08/1:28a.m/ethnic conflict

After the remorseful visit from President Bush and First Lady Bush, when they visited the memorial museum of all the people that has died in the constant violence because of the genocide that took place so many years ago, things are not getting any better. The ethnic group and police started the latest violence in western Congo. It is stated that at least 22 people have been killed since the police tried to assert state control. The mass violence has wrong-footed the world’s biggest U.N. peacekeeping force. This lastest violence has been taking place in the last five days. Congo is still recovering from a 1998-2003 war that left much of the country in ruins and killed an estimated 5.4 million people mainly through hunger and disease.
Even though the U.N. force sent 140 extra peacekeepers to Congo to ensure calm around the anniversary of military crackdown, more than one hundred were killed. Two police officers died in fighting along with twenty-two in the first days of the clashes alone. BDK leaders said that the death toll was much higher than figures given by the government. So my question is how many people are REALLY dieing.
I feel that this long violence is getting really old. I just wish all these innocent people would have the chance to live and for someone to have the authority to put a final stop to all the killing and violence. I hate to hear about people dying left and right. Everyone deserves a chance to live. If the peacekeepers can not do the job who can?
