North Korea Test Fired Missiles, South Korea Says

Catherine McDuffie March 28, 2008 10:33 AM Global Crime

North Korea has been reported by South Korea to have been testing several short range missiles in the waters around the North Korean coast. It has not been said exactly how many were tested, only just that they had been. The launches were apparently an attack on the U.S. for being responsible for a delay in the six-nation negotiation aimed at dismantling N. Korea’s nuclear weapons program. Russia, the U.S., Russia, China, and Japan are at a deadlock with the communist country after the December 31 deadline has passed for a declaration of all details of its nuclear weapon program. Today North Korea has reiterated its denial of production of enriching uranium, and warned the U.S. that continued accusations could be very harmful for the six-nation talks. South Korea employs more than 20,000 North Korean workers in its industrial complex, where things such as shoes and clothes are made. South Korea desperately wants to develop this industry, but feels it cannot until North Korea stops tampering with the nuclear weapons.

I do not know much about the history of North Korea’s fixation on nuclear weapons, but I do know this is not even close to being the first time other countries have had problems with them testing and, perhaps, producing the weapons. I do not know why it is necessary for North Korea to continue with this silly behavior besides just trying to flex its muscles since it is a very small country.
