Muslim insurgents in Somalia raided Mogadishu, a key Somali town. There were approximately 100 masked raiders, who raided the jail and killed a police chief. They freed a number of prisoners before retreating from the town. Last month, they took over a southern town in Somalia, killing 9 prisoners before being pushed back out.
Two years ago, Islamists took over much of southern Somalia, including the capital Mogadishu. It took a bit over 6 months for Somalia and its ally Ethiopia, along with Western backing, to push them out of the area. Somalia lies on the east coast of Africa, just south of the Islamic transition zone of Africa to the Middle East. There is a history of war in Somalia, between rival ethnic groups, native Somalis, and Islamists in the area. It seems that the violence seems to be rising again following a brief intermission in the fighting.

It is so nice to finally hear of a raid where people weren't brutally murdered or taken captive! I don't quite understand why they raided though...i might look into the issue a little more!
