The Dalai Lama arrived in Seattle, Washington this morning, his first visit to the United States since the recent occurrences of conflict in the Tibetan region.
As His Holiness exited the plane he was met by singing Tibetan supports, and he urged them to continue nonviolent protests. However, he claimed that he was saddened by the recent developments in San Francisco, where protesters disrupted the running of the torch, a ceremonial Olympic celebration. He denies the Chinese government’s allegations that the recent upsurge in Tibetan protest is correlated with the upcoming Olympics in Beijing, and has accused the Chinese government of demonizing him and misinterpreting his actions and intentions.
Seattle is holding its annual five-day Seeds of Compassion conference, which “aims to nurture kindness and compassion in the world” – traits definitive of Buddhism, the Dalai Lama’s religion.
The Dalai Lama has primarily resided in India since he fled his homeland Tibet in 1959 amid very real threats of violence. He still remains the Tibetan spiritual leader.
I hope that the Chinese government does the right thing. This turning out wrong could potentially be a catalyst for major conflict.

I agree that this could end with a major conflict if the right precautions aren't followed. Dalai Lama is very compassionate and should be highly respected for his way of life.
