EC - USA vs. Al-Arian - a Line Halvorsen Documentary

Sunday, April 6 at 6:15 p.m.
@ The Greensboro Ballroom (4922 Mary Street off Edwardia / West Wendover in Greensboro, NC).

"USA vs. Al-Arian follows the arrest and trial of Sami Al-Arian, an Arab-American university professor accused of supporting a terrorist organization abroad. He was held in solitary confinement for two and a half years, denied basic priveleges and given limited access to his attorneys. The film is an intimate family portrait documenting the tight-knit family during a difficult period as trial preparations strategy and spin consume their lives. Norwegian director Line Halvorsen has made a damning portrait of the case focusing on the trial's emotional toll. This is a nightmare come to life-a man is prosecuted for his beliefs rather than his actions. The jury did not find Dr. Al-Arian guilty on a single count after a six-month long trial, but he remains in jail. Currently Sami Al-Arian's condition is critical as he is on a hunger strike to protest the government's treatment of him."

"The film about the trial of Sami-Al Arian has been applauded in Europe and in the Middle East, and has already aired in 12 countries. North Carolinians now have an opportunity to see this unique film and to meet with the filmmaker and the family portrayed."

"The Al-Arian family members and film director Line Halvorsen will be present for Q&A after the screening."

This will be a quite a powerful event that has the potential to raise many questions among people about the post 9-11 world. If you would be interested please come check it out.
