Plans for the greenest office building in Edinburgh were denied after it was ruled the building would actually CAUSE pollution.
The plans called for the revamping of an existing building that would call for a grass roof, solar panels, and heating done via a biomass boiler, which is the issue. The boiler would burn scrap timber and other wastes which would emit no CO2 and a reduced amount of nitrogen oxide. Officials questioned whether or not the CO2 amount would really be reduced since transporting the fuel to the boiler would emit CO2 itself. Also, the biomass boiler would emit particulates which irritate the lungs.
Green councilor Alison Johnstone believes officials should not block the use of renewable resources that produce CO2 and should instead reduce emissions from vehicles in the area.
Again, there seems to be no true solution to pollution issues. Even so-called green measures add to the problem in their own way. Like the debate over ethanol and if it really is better once you take into account all of the fossil fuels needed to process the corn. I think more research needs to be done to determine just how each impacts the environment.

That's ironic, even the green productions cause environmental damage. What do you think the solution is to the green building?

It seems everyday we hear something new has come along that is going to be "green" have help the pollution problem that we have, yet nothing seems to stick and nothing changes. This is yet again another failed attempt. I agree, there needs to be more research done, right now I don't think anyone has come up with a solution to the problem.
