Bello Massaba, age 84, was seized from his Bidda, Nigeria home and taken straight to the courts in the capital Minna. Massaba was charged with “incendiary contempt of religious laws, and contracting unlawful marriages.” Yes marriages. Massaba is a Nigerian Muslim, and it is within their custom to have up to four wives. However, Massaba broke this rule by engaging in not for, but 86 marriages. A coalition of Nigerian human right groups arranged to have 86 different lawyers defend Massaba. That many lawyers must have persuaded the government, because two weeks ago, the courts gave Mr. Massaba an ultimatum, and he agreed to keep only 4 wives and divorce the other 82.
This is completely unfair to his many wives. Yes I understand that this is a custom of their culture, however I know that these women can’t possibly be happy that their husband has 80 some odd wives. Sometimes I wonder why these customs don’t spread to the United States and only in developing counties. Is it because the women are just accustomed to this and don’t know any better? Or is it just the way of their world, and they don’t have a problem with it?

I can't imagine having 86 wives; the notion is quite ridiculous to me. In my opinion, it is hard enough being with one person let alone trying to divide your time amongst 86 individuals, and this doesn't even mention the number of children his 86 wives have begotten him. This is mere foolishness and his wives are just as silly for partaking in this.
This is hard to believe. It it so out of this world for us here to even imagine having more than one marraige, let alone 86. This defeats the whole point of marraige. I really don't know what to say about tihs other than it is simply ridiculous.
