As the conflict between Georgia and Russia worsens, the need for protection of their citizens has become a primary concern. Amnesty International is calling for civil protection for the many citizens that are being killed because of the constant battle between these two countries. Many people have been forced to flee their homes because of the on-going destruction happening every day. Many of these ethnic wars are centered on South Ossetia, and the Russian “buffer zone.” Nicola Duckworth, European and Central Asian Amnesty director has said that the only means of trying to solve this ongoing problem is for the administration in both of these countries to begin “making every possible effort to guarantee security, and provide assistance to all people without discrimination.” Amnesty International is also looking into finding out exactly who is responsible for these violations of human rights, and bringing the problem and the people to justice. They plan to start a complete mission into trying to rebuild the lives of hundreds of residences, in Georgia and Russian areas of conflict, and ultimately preparing to move them safely back into the countries.
The fact that there is being an effort to stop these human rights violations is a wonderful thing. In many of these countries, innocent lives are being taken, and are at stake because of ethnic conflict no one seems to want to take charge of. In order for things to change, someone is going to have to take that next step, and promote the change needed. I hope that Amnesty International can indeed follow through in their plans to stop the crimes that are going on in these countries. Finding the enforcement to back them up, I believe will be their greatest fight and effort in facing this problem. Many people are too scared to intervene in this international issue, and could deny the claim of trying to help end the conflict. As stated in the article, it is going to take the work of everyone to promote this change, not just the efforts of the human rights organizations.

I think it is a wonderful thing that Amnesty International is trying to help. I just wish the conflict could have been avoided from the start. Political leaders really are messing things up right now. They do not seem to be exhausting all diplomatic means before using military force. It's a serious problem, and we cannot really do anything about it...except vote...yeah.
