For developing countries, providing clean water and toilets is the most efficient way to eliminate poverty and improve health conditions. Drinking water and sanitation would save cash on treating diseases, ultimately creating jobs and productivity.
More than 900 million people lack access to safe drinking water, and 2.5 billion live without proper sanitation. Approximately 94 percent of cases of diarrhea, killed more than 1.4 million children a year.
The UN estimates a total of 12 billion to 25 billion dollars needed to invest to improve water and sanitation levels. 12 billions dollars compares to how much pet food we spend in North America. An encouraging statistic, because we are able to raise this money!
In order to reach our goal by halving the poverty by 2015, under the Millenium Development Goals, we need to target water supplies and higher sanitation levels in developing nations.

I agree, its funny how we can have politcal raises that raise millions of dollars to help a campaign but we as people do not seem to be able to raise that money for other causes such as this one.
