‘The Greatest Silence’ documents women’s plights in the war that has cost at least 4 million lives in the Congo since 1998. Lisa Jackson spent 2006 in the war zones, interviewing women who had been captured and raped by soldiers and others. Jackson’s own experience of having been raped in the U.S. allowed her to make an immediate connection with the women, lending a special intimacy to their conversations. The film was awarded a Special Jury Prize at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.
