High-tech portals to aid border screenings

Taking care of the US border, especially on the southern end is a tiresome task. Employing agents to take care of the issues of huma trafficking, illegal immigration, and drug trafficking. All of these issues are important to keeping the United States safe. Although this issue is not global, the technology that is going to be used on next thurday at the San Ysidro - Mexico borderis something that could change the world in securing any borders. The techonology that is being used is somewhat controversial, using low radiation X-Rays, this techonology will be able to produce a silhouette of the persons inside the vehicle. This technoogy will be able to see if there are people inside of the trunk of the vehicle, or unveil packages of drugs. This will be able to give the agents more awareness of what is inside the vehicle and reduce the possible risk of getting hurt. The good thing about this technology is it is low cost. It only costs 2 million to purchase and install at the San Ysidro.

The idea of being able to track drug that are being exported and imported is great, but the use of radiation could possibly create a problem. With radiation comes the results of certain cancers, and other health issues. But, the idea is a great one. It will be very intersting to see how this issue progresses.

To the other Danielle: I'd imagine that at worst it might be unsafe for drivers who frequently travel back and forth over the border. I'm kinda skeptical about xrays being THAT dangerous (maybe I'm just being ignorant).

But it's an interesting idea. I'd worry that, like all technology, it'll get abused, but we'll see, I suppose.
