Women with Disabilities Austrialia - Vanida Chithtamath 11:15am

The UN Convention has released an updated version of a previous promotion and protection of women in Austrialia with disabilities earlier this week. The commitee was originally set up to during the Ad Hoc Committee on Aug. 12th, 2005. It is now 2008 and they have come up with some solutions for those who are in need of equality. The WWDA strongly argued that their is need of a separate article addressing their needs as women with disabilities and it can not be attached to some other reform. It was a large enough issue that the UN must recognized them as individuals. There has been several instances where the women has faced great discriminations and believes they fundamentally deserve the equal treatment that men and boys recieve. The women have many goals they are targeting but the largest issue they want to push is to have a national bill of rights recognized by the government of Austrialia. This new bill of rights they believe will be "the safe guard against the removal of people's rights" and will not take away from people's civil liberties. This uprising in their pressure on the UN and Austrialia has gain global recognition. Many countries are seeing this as an example and it sending in contributions and drafts to help with the writing of the Bill of Rights towards the WWDA's cause.
I think this is a great idea, these women have been seen as second rate citizens, not only are they female but disabled and I think that what they are organizing is 1)Giving them global recognition and 2)Actually changing some of the old policies. I think this is only a positive movement and I am looking forward to reading the final draft. This update is encourage for women around the world that equality is possible.
