Bombings in Colombia

In Cali, Colombia, FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forced of Colombia) were blamed for a series of bombings in the city during the past couple of weeks. Cali is one of Colombia's largest cities. The most recent act of terrorism was a car bombing that killed two people and wounded many others. Last week, the group was blamed for a bombing outside of a Blockbuster that also killed two people and wounded many more. In the car bombing on Sunday, a suspect crashed a vehicle into the police station in Cali; the truck exploded, and the suspect tried to run away. Police officers shot the suspect, who later died in the hospital. The bombings came as shock because FARC has been releasing several hostages in the past weeks. Officials were hoping that these were signs of peace in the future. According to CNN.com, FARC and the Colombian government have been at war for almost 40 years.

I beleive that a lot of times, people tend to associate terrorism with Middle Eastern countries. It is not suprising to hear about it in other place, because terrorism is everywhere. However, I think people focus more heavily on the terrorism in Iraq or Afghanistan. I can't imagine how difficult it is for people who live in places that are targeted by terrorist frequently. For example, Cali, the place mentioned above, has experience four bombings in the past 3 or 4 years. Here in America, we will always remember 9/11, but we always here about terrorism in other countries. It definitely affects us all; no matter what country is attacked, everyone around the globe is affected by terrorism one way or another.
