Economic downturn endangers German birth rate rise

The global economic crisis has created many issues around the world concerning job loss, home loss, and many other social issues. In Germany, it is now being brought up that the birth rate is slowing as well. Families are concerned about finances, and women are only having only one or two children. Also, they are having children at older ages (this appears to be a global trend as well). This may be considered a good thing for concerns of overpopulation, but the German government wants to make sure that families are aware that they can and should have children if they want to.They are telling their people that the government will assist them in programming and funds for parents. The German government is aware that new education plans would be beneficial for mothers and children, as well as the economy; it could create many new jobs and in the long run even help raise the economic deficit.

I definitely have mixed feelings about this article. I agree with the German government that people should be able to have as many children as they want, but I think that it is unfair to raise a child in a home that is financially insecure. I don't think that you need to be wealthy or even upper middle class to have a child, but if you are currently in an insecure job and already having problems with finance, you might need to wait longer before having children. While the government can do some things to help, the burden should not fall entirely on them.

This article is interesting to me. I feel that the government is doing a good job helping and offering programs for the women to have more children. I also agree with you that it is unfair to bring a child into an environment that you can not provide for it which will only cause more problems in the long run.
