The war in Darfur has been going on for a long while now, and it's actually something I am just starting to follow, due to either my own ignorance; lack of general American interest. But, I don't want to be in that category.
What I know thus far is that the North Sudan army have been killing the black citizens of Darfur, because the land is of use to them in terms of farming. This is the best explanation I have/could find. I am continuing to read about this complex issue in an attempt to speculate further. Either way, this is a problem that I know we have been ignoring up until this point, where over 200,000 black South Darfurians are dead and it seems too late to do anything besides throw a president in jail. This was/is not a war, it's the killing of a people for their land. Now it seems there are ethnic reasons involved, as I'm sure there would have to be. I don't think you can perform acts of mass murder on a certain tribal people without some kind of ethnic reasoning and rationale going on in one's mind, regarding to the view of these people's lives as being worth less. However, starvation, drought, and death of your own people is a strong motivating factor for any countries people to want to fight and kill.
The leader of this country has some kind of physical control over the people, that has not been made clear to me. I'm sure it has to do with restrictions on food and basic living needs; in addition to instilling the idea of ethnic superiority. How else could these Sudanese people be driven to commit atrocities?
According to Reuters, the main reason for the invasion, and the war, is because there are not enough resources for the over-populated Sudan. I also sense that the conflicts are ethnic and tribally routed. Rapes for the sake of ethnic cleansing have been reported. It is very hard to find information regarding the sociological reasoning behind this idea of racial and ethnic cleansing in regards to Darfur.
Any comments or feedback would be greatly appreciated. I would very-much like to understand more about this issue. I want to know more of the historical conflicts that led to this genocide.

I actually have followed this for a while now, and as i understand it, is a sort ethnic cleansing, The government is ran by Light skinned muslims, and for some reason that i still don't understand, the hatred between them has provoked this genocide, obviously the poor villagers, are the victims since they have no way of defending themselves. I think its sad that this is the first time that we have learned of genocide somewhere while its happening, as oppose as when it has ended, like in Rwanda. and we still are unable to do anything to. Ive read that the reason that the U.S. does not intervene is because they Sudanese government gives us clues about terrorist, or something like that. Also the U.N. can do nothing but watch because every country didnt approve when it was voted for. i believe its China that has oil drilling companies in Sudan so they refused to approve the intervention of the U.N... its really terrible what is going on over there, but is important that we are informed about it so we can help as much as possible.
