Singer Amy Winehouse was charged with assault in London this Friday over an incident that happened in September. The incident took place at a Berkeley charity ball that Winehouse was attending. A spokesperson commented that Amy voluntarily went down to a London police station on Thursday to be questioned about the incident. She has been charged with common assault and has a court hearing later this march.
I would not be surprised to find out that the assault in a result of her drinking or drug habit. She obviously has some serious problems—problems that should be kept out of the spotlight. Although she is “kind of” famous here in the U.S., she is even more so in her home country of England. I can only imagine how much more the British have had to hear about her self-destruction. The news article also says that she has allegedly struggled with a drug habit and her husband is seeking to divorce because of her adultery. Amy Winehouse is all kinds of crazy. There is nothing alleged about her drug use—just take a look at her…one of her songs is about not going to rehab!
Not only has Ms. Winehouse assaulted someone, but at the time, she was most likely intoxicated (in public) with either drugs or booze. She has committed a crime, but because she is seen as a celebrity, she will most likely only get a slap on the wrists. I’m tired of celebrities getting off easy on crimes. They should be treated like any other Joe Nobody. Send her to anger management, rehab, community service, SOMETHING.

I feel like someone needs to take charge in her life and get her under some kind of control. It's been in the news several times that she has problems with drugs and drinking and it has clearly gotten no better. She is out of control and needs to be under some sort of watch.
