This story has become sort of a pet project of mine. More actually of a pet pevee really. I keep posting on this story because I want people to know about it. I like to think that I'm aware of the world and what happens in it to a degree, yet this is proof of how unaware I really am. Tousands have died and I was at the best clueless about it. So, if you don't want to hear anymore about it, don't read it.
The Tigers are losing ground.
A road that had been closed for almost 24 years in Sri Lankan has been reopened finally. Supplies are able to move freely now to the military forces that are fighting for the government. The road had been opened in 2002 for peace talks, only to be re-closed in 2006 as the fighting resumed. The road, used to collect taxes from the people under the LTTE, is expected to be a huge set back for the LTTE troops who have no income now. India has sent out it’s own plea, asking to be allowed to evacuate the remaining civilians that are still trapped in the fire between the two groups. Humanitarians efforts are recognized as being very dire right now.
I found out a little more about why this conflict was started too. The Tamil people, an actual population of Sri Lankan, wanted to have equality in Sri Lankan. They just wanted to have a better life, like anyone else would. I think what really gets me in this piece is how easy it is for an idea, good or bad, to turn bloody. The government still refuses to treat with the Tamil people until and unless they absolutely and utterly surrender. And they of course, refuse until the government agrees to stop the genocidal tactics that have been seen in the North. So, stalemate.

I think the conflict in Sri Lanka is pretty terrible. That being said, it has been a long standing ethnic conflict between the Tamils and the Sinhalese. I have also been following the conflict, and it seems that the groups are going back and forth between heading towards a peace and flares of violence.
I've noticed that too, even though I have to admit I don't know much on it. The thing that really gets me is how anyone could take 26 years of it? I mean even the World Wars were only about two each by the end everyone was tired of it.
