The East Asia Summit is a meeting of government officials from the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations, and six other nations from Asia and the western Pacific. On Saturday, these leaders will meet with their counterparts from China, Japan and South Korea.
On Sunday leaders from India, Australia and New Zealand will join the meeting, along with the secretary-general of the United Nations. On Friday a summit of the Eastern Asia leaders met to address the economical issues within Thai but, it was interrupted by hundreds of protestors that were blocking the main entrance to the convention center. The protestors eventually moved out but only after police were required to use force. The Prime Minister of Thailand, Abhisit Vejjajiva, said that the leaders would talk about North Korea and their missile control but the main focus would be the economical crisis. Most of the countries attending claim to have major layoffs and factory shut-downs. The Prime Minister declared that Friday a early holiday in hopes that people would go home but they are dedicated and will follow the government wherever they go to protest. This is just a close look at some of the protest that have been occurring against the government and prime minister in Thailand and Bangkok.
