Duke Energy Ordering Wind Power
Our own company, based in Charlotte, has recently undergone negotiations with Suzlon Wind Energy for orders of S88-2.1MW wind turbines to be put in Wyoming for a project Duke is undergoing. This agreement will also provide a five-year agreement for maintenance and service over said wind turbines. The CEO of Suzlon commented on how expanding to a large provider such as Duke Energy – which serves over four million people – shows their ability to deliver more-than-adequate products to companies that require it. One of the main points is the maintenance: as he remarks, “…We have provided customer service, which we believe has given us another opportunity to grow our partnership with Duke."
The spreading of wind energy shows that companies and many investors are embracing this form of energy-friendly over other forms, save for the possible exception of the use of hybrid energy in cars. Wind energy seems to be preferred for the sheer ease and money-savings when used. The more interesting part is the rapid growth of this energy. In New Zealand, wind energy provides over 2.5% of the energy for the country, but the experts say the potential is incredibly higher. Wind energy seems to be the choice over Geo-Thermal energy or solar energy. Each of these large, "utility-scale," wind turbines can have blade lengths up to 150ft and sit on a 200ft tower, and produce enough electricity for 500-600 average homes per year. I look forward to the day when wind turbines will not be the exception, but the norm.
